Flooding Causes Damage in Southern Tier

Instead of celebrating the Fourth of July with fireworks or a cookout, folks in the Southern Tier were soaked by heavy thurderstorms and cleaning up after flooding. Parts of Union Valley Road were washed away, and residents were evacuated due to the heavy rain flooding a creek. Residents on East River Road in Portville were flooded too. There was also significant flooding reported in Belfast, Bolivar and Wellsville in Allegany County . Doppler radar estimated about two to three inches of rainfall that caused flooding.
It wasn’t water but fire that caused heavy damage to a Franklinville excavating contractor business.
The Franklinville Volunteer Fire Department received a report of a structure fire at Snyder & Sons, on route 16 Firefighters had the flames knocked down but a large hole in the roof and damage to the south side of the garage-like structure was visible.
