Rally in the Valley Cancelled for 2018

There will not be a 16th annual Rally in the Valley next month.
One of the biggest summer events has been cancelled. Organizers say sponsorships were drying up and so was attendance.
They moved the rally from Allegany to Olean two years ago to save money. But it didn’t work. Rally attendance dipped to about 10,000 the last three or four years after hitting a peak of more than 20,000 around 2008.They say they’ll take a year off to reorganize. In the past 15 years the rally has raised nearly $300,000 for local charities and nonprofits.

The nonprofit Friends of Portville group is getting ready to help the community. They say they’ll work on Dodge Creek bridge, extending sidewalk into Lyman Baker Park. The group received $9,400 a year ago from Chuck Lucas’ efforts for the Portville Covered Bridge project over Dodge Creek. They’re looking into a long-range project of a footbridge over the creek.
