Two Churches – One Pastor for First Time Since 1895

It hasn’t happened in Olean in 123 years. But This summer, local history is coming to two Catholic churches For the first time since 1895, when Gover Cleveland sat in the White House as the 24th U.S. President, The Basilica of St. Mary of the Angles and St. John’s Roman Catholic Church will have the same pastor.
The Rev. Patrick Melfi will succeed the Very Rev. Gregory Dobson as pastor and rector of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. He’ll also stay on as pastor of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church. St. Mary’s has about 1,350 families, while St. John’s has about 450.
Another union involved Jamestown Community College and St. Bonaventure University. They’ve signed a deal to let students start at a two-year community college then go to a four-year university.
Officials from both schools met at JCC’s Cattaraugus County Campus to sign an agreement to let JCC students earn an associate’s degree at JCC and then a bachelor’s at St. Bonaventure.
