NY Legislature To Debate Domestic Gun Bill

Guns will be taken away from anyone charged with domestic abuse under a new bill proposed in the New York Legislature. The Safe Homes Act would allow police to confiscate guns removed and return them if the charges are dropped or the suspect is ruled innocent.
Senate Minority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, called on the Senate’s Republican leaders to bring the bill to a vote as soon as possible — either in January when the 2018 session begins or sooner, if a special session is held before the new year as some have suggested.
The Gift Tree program is a huge success in it’s first week according to the executive director of Interfaith Caregivers. Megan Taylor says 76 Gift Tree families had been adopted after just three days.
The annual program, is sponsored by Interfaith Caregivers and the Olean Times Herald. It provides Christmas gifts for the area’s needy families. This is the 8th year of the program.
