Olean Common Council Elects New Leader

The Olean Common Council has a new leader.
John Crawford was elected head of the council during Tuesday’s reorganizational meeting.
All seven members of the council voted for Crawford, who is in the second year of his first term in office.
Crawford called his new position on the council an extremely humbling experience.
Crawford was elected in 2016. Crawford says he’s a fiscal conservative.
New York State Senate Republicans will keep control of the 63-member legislative body through budget negotiations. There are 32 members of the Republican Conference and one independent. the 32 conference members include 31 Republicans and Sen. Simcha Felder of Brooklyn, a conservative Democrat who announced he will continue to caucus with Republicans.
Five Allegany-Limestone Central School District teachers will retire at the end of the school year and will need to be replaced. Interim Superintendent Mark Ward made the announcement at Tuesday’s school board meeting.
