Olean Dispatcher Charged With Falsifying Records About Suicide

She used to work for the Olean Police Department as a dispatcher. Now she’s in danger of going jail because a man comitted suicide on her watch. 55 year old Lorraine Sloane has been accused of lieing about how many times she checked the cell block the day that a man hung himself in a jail cell.
She’s charged with falsifying business records, for allegedly making a false entry into the department’s prisoner log. Olean police found inconsistencies with the log during its internal investigation of a June 11 suicide at the jail. Police say she’s supposed to check the prison cells every 30 minutes, but she didn’t.
She’s been fired.

Carl Paladino’s furture as a member for he Buffalo School Board won’t be known for a couple of weeks. A decision on whether the St. Bonaventure alum and one-time candidate for New York governor who publicly insulted former President Barack Obama in racist terms should stay on the board is expected next month.

Teen Faces New Sex Charges

Police say he abducted a 12 year old girl and set off a state wide amber alert last month. Now the Farmersville teenager has pleaded not guilty to felony sex charges in Cattaraugus County Court.
eighteen year old Joshua Monette is charged with two counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child, two counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child, and first-degree disseminating indecent material to minors, all are felonies. He also pleaded not guilty to several other charges relating to the Amber Alert incident. Police said Monette and 16-year-old John Harvey were driving a stolen red Chevy Silverado pickup truck and they were armed with handguns.

After months of debate, not much has changed to the Olean City School District Board of Education public comments policy. Now if you want to speak out at a board meeting you have to give a written request to the clerk a few days before teh meeting.

Olean Mother Found, Faces Charges

A missing Olean monther and her children have been found safe, but now she might have to go to jail.
40 year old Shannon Hitchcock reportedly went on the run with her young children. Police say she does not have legal custody of, 11-year-old Adrianna Graves and 10-year-old Mason Graves. She failed to appear in Cattaraugus County Family Court with her children May 24. POlice say she was found in Pennsylvania and is awaiting extradition. Hitchcock is charged with first-degree custodial interference.

The Olean man who vandalized St. John’s Roman Catholic Church on Valentine’s Day has been sentenced to three years probation. 22 year old Thomas Kissinger, was sentenced in Cattaraugus County Court after pleading guilty to fifth-degree arson, a misdemeanor, and fourth-degree criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor.

Carl Paladino Denies Wrongdoing

The former St. Bonaventure alum who’s a multi milionaire developer and once ran for governor of New York took the stand to determine whether he should stay on the Buffalo school board. Carl Paladino is fighting board members who want to kick him off. He insulted President Barack Obama and first Lady Michelle Obama with racist insults. He’s also accused of giving information about teacher contract negotiations that was supposed to be hush hush. Paladino said he didn’t like the teachers’ contract but he didn’t admit to any wrongdoing. He says the real reason board members want him out is because of what he wrote in a Buffalo newspaper. In case you forgot, he said he wanted to see Michelle Obama return to being a male and let loose in the outback of Zimbabwe where she lives comfortably in a cave with a gorilla. He also wrote that he hoped President Obama would die of mad cow disease.

Former St. Bonaventure alum and one-time candidate for New York governor Carl Paladio took the stand at a hearing to determine whether he should remain on the Buffalo school board. Paladino is fighting an attempt by fellow board members to have him removed. He publicly insulted President Barack Obama and first Lady Michelle Obama with racist language. He’s also accused of disclosing information about teacher contract negotiations discussed in closed-door sessions. Protesters calling for his dismissal chanted outside durng Tuesday’s session before Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia in Albany. On the stand, the millionaire developer described his displeasure with the teachers’ contract but didn’t admit to any wrongdoing. He says the real reason board members want him out is because of those offensive comments he made about Obama in a Buffalo newspaper.

Bradford’s School district has a 2017-18 budget of $39,796,657 and it includes no increases in taxes.
The budget received final approval from the majority of board members during Monday’s school board meeting.

Heroin Dealer Sentenced for Homicide

A heroin dealer will spend 1 to 3 years in prison for selling a lethal doese of the drug.
twenty seven year old Chelsea Lyons took the drug with 42-year-old Matthew Harper, but he overdosed and died. She was one of three Olean women charged for selling fentanyl-laced heroin to three users who died, the first time in the county. The other two women, had their homicide charges dismissed.

The Olean Police Department is nears the end of its internal investigation into a suicide in its cell block, now the New York State Commission of Correction has begun its own investigation.
The commission investigates every inmate death in New York jails and prisons. It’s lookign at a June 11 hanging in the Olean jail. A 31 year old allegany man hung himself after being arrested for drunk driving.
He was rushed to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, whre he died a few days later.

Former Olean High School Teacher Sentenced to Jail for Molestation

A Former Olean High School teacher will spend six months in jail for molesting one of his students.
38 year old Robert Washington apologized in Cattaraugus County Court and was immediately turned over to the county jail. Washington has been free the last 12 months while waiting for sentencing was also sentenced to 10 years probation and will have to register as a sex offender.
He could have faced one year and three months to three years in New York state prison, but the judge capped sentencing at one year in jail after Washington agreed to give up his teaching license,

An abandoned trailer fire in Wirt results in two injuries to members of the Richburg Fire Department.
It happened on Blaine Road on Sunday night. Several agencies responded to a call of a fire at an abandoned trailer at 7:40 p.m. The cause of the fire is undetermined.

Ellicotville Superintendent Retires

Ellicottville District Superintendent Mark Ward is retiring at the end of the month after 42-years in education.
Thirty-three of those were spent at Ellicottville Central School as a history teacher, football, track and basketball coach, high school principal and for the last seven years, school district superintendent, which has always been his “dream job.” Ward is a Great Valley native who still lives in the town he grew up in, works in the same school as he attended as a teenager and then taught history and coached in for 10 years before becoming an administrator.

A record number of vehicles droped off old electronics in Bradford, despite the rain. After four-hours workers had unloaded electronic items from a record 362 vehicles, almost twice as many vehicles from last year. The drop-offs filled three large trucks, containing a total of 30 pallets, from floor to ceiling.

State Investigation Olean Jail Suicide

A suicide in an Olean jail cell has the attention of the New York State Commission of Correction. It’s investigating a June 11 hanging in the Olean jail. A 31-year-old Allegany man who hung himself in his jail cell.
He’d been arrested just hours earlier for drunk driving, hanging from his cell bars. Depending on the results, investigators may produce a death report, which could take at least six months.

Olean Police are searching for a mother they believe is on the run with her two kids.
Police say 40-year-old Shannon Hitchcock failed to appear in Cattaraugus County Family Court with her children. Hitchcock doesn’t have custody of the two kids, and police believe that she took off with them. The three have been missing since May 24th.Police are searching for Hitchcock and her two children, Adrianna and Mason. Anyone with information on their location is asked to call Olean Police investigators

Crack Cocaine Bust

They came from Buffalo to sell crack cocaine at a main street hotel in Foster Township, according to police. Now they’re in jail. 42 year old samuel Jackson, 40 yerar old Antwain Jackson and 35 year old Jennifer Campbell reportedly rented a room at America’s Best Value Inn. Police say Campbell bought a gram of crack from the men and sold it to a confidential informant working for police. police say they seized cash and 16 grams of crack cocaine from the men’s hotel room.

A Bradford woman is not who she claimed to be, according to police. 25 year old Brittany Skaggs is charged with identity theft for allegedly getting a credit card in another person’s name. the victim had no idea, police say, because he was in jail. They say she got a credit card in his name and ran up over $500 in charges in his name.
