Drug Possession Charged

An Olean man’s Memorial Day weekend will be memorable for another reason. Twenty two year old John Chabuel the second has been arrested after police say they found a pound a marijuana in his car along with cocaine, oxycodone, hydrocodone and aprazolam.
He was stopped for a traffic violation on Interstate 390 in Avon. Deputies said they smelled marijuana and searched the vehicle. It’s not Chabuel’s first contact with law enforcement. he as on probation in Cattaraugus County.

The solid rock festival has a nationally known Christian hip-hop artist heading the show this year.
A rapped known as flame will headline the Festival in July.
The event is free. It’s happening on July 30 at the Bradford Township Lions Club. At least six other bands will join the lineup.
The full lineup will be announced closer to the event.

The second annual Hinsdale Horseradish Festival happens this weekend at Gile Hollow Park. Admission is $5.

Olean Man Arrested on Drug Charges

An Olean man was arrested Monday in Avon on felony drug charges after a K9 unit found him with a pound of marijuana and several other drugs in his car on Route 390.
Police say twenty two year old John Chabuel the second had cocaine, oxydodone, alprazolam and hydrocodone pills.
He’s been charged with several counts of drug possession and three traffic violations.
Bail was set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.

The second annual Hinsdale Horseradish Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday at Gile Hollow Park. There will be fresh ground horseradish, horseradish roots, horseradish plants, horseradish cheese.
Admission is $5 per person.

Man Runs Through Church Window

A man who Olean police say ran through a church window trying to get away from police has been arrested and taken to the hospital.
thirty eight year old carey peden was reportedly seen breaking into a city vehicle Monday morning. When police chased him they say he ran right through a glass window at Olean First Baptist Church on South Union Street church. He’s charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony; and possessing a hypodermic needle.
Police took Peden to Olean General Hospital for a mental health evaluation and to be treated for a cut suffered from the broken window.

Officials with the Art in the Park/Taste of Olean celebration say this years event is in a new location.
The event will be held at War Vets Park, in Olean. It;s set for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 24. Organizers say the festival was moved from its previous location at Jamestown Community College because of concerns about construction on North Union Street.

Mount Jewett Boy Drowns

A Mount Jewett boy drowned in a creek in Warren County, Saturday afternoon.
According to reports, thirteen year old Kyle Roberts was fishing with his nephew and a friend.
His body was recovered about 50 feet south of the High Street Bridge in Sheffield.
Roberts’ parents have set up a GoFundMe account to help offset the expenses for their son’s funeral. .

Olean police say a man broke into a city vehichle Monday morning then ran through a glass window at Olean First Baptist Church when he was chased.

Shinglehouse Teen Drowns

A Shinglehouse teenage died while trying to save family members from drowning in Oswayo Creek Saturday afternoon.
Sixteen year old Dawson Mesler was not able to make it back to shore and drowned. The death was ruled accidental, and the investigation continues.
The family has started A GoFundMe webpage to help with expenses.

Lightening struck a shed in Port Allegany Sunday. Firefighters were called out to fight the shed fire on North Pine Street.

A Steamburg man waived his right to a preliminary hearing in the second degree manslaughter case of Watson Cooper.
19 year old Cyrus Spruce reportedly hit two parked cars before hitting Cooper, and driving away.
The case would be sent to Cattaraugus County and be presented to a grand jury.

A Buffalo man’s faces charges of selling heroin in Bradford last year. Thirty seven year old Ronald Miller Jr. reportedly sold heroin to a confidential informant with the McKean County Drug Task Force.

Weekend House Fire

Fire crews were called to an Olean home over the weekend.
No one was hurt at the fire on Tompkins Street in Olean early Saturday morning.
According to a report in the Olean Times Herald, Capt. James Bennett of the Olean Fire Department said the downstairs tenant left pan with oil on the stove unattended. The fire caused about $15,000 worth of damage.

An abandoned trailer on Coon Hollow Road was destroyed by fire Saturday night.
Nobody’d lived in the trailer for years, according to Portville Fire Department First Assistant Chief T.J. Latten. No one was injured in the fire.
They’re still investigating the cause of that fire as well.

According to court records a confidential informant with the McKean County Drug Task Force bought heroin from Miller.
He’s in McKean County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Fire investigators are looking into the cause of a weekend fire.

River Victim Identified

Police have identified the 83 year old man found dead in the Allegheny River and they’re ruled out foul play.
Police think that Robert Granger Sr. had stopped to rest on one of the benches off the Allegheny River Trail trail overlooking the river when he fell down the embankment.
An investigation to determine the cause of death continues.

Cattaraugus County has transfered 13 blighted Olean properties to the city that the county had seized for nonpayment of taxes.
Instead of selling the 13 properties at last weekend’s tax title property auction, county lawmakers agreed to Olean’s request for nine properties for $40,000 — the amount the county had paid the city for unpaid city taxes.
The Legislature threw in four other properties and canceled the $40,000 the city was going to reimburse the county.

Dead Body Found in Allegany River

The dead body of an ederly man was taken out of the the Allegheny River early Wednesday afternoon. New York State Police are investigating to see if foul play was involved. The name of the man hasn’t been reased. The body was found about 200 yards southwest of the St. Bonaventure University campus athletic fields. The man was from the Allegany area,

An Allegany man accused of burning down his house for insurance money has pleaded guilty and been sentenced. Forty one year old Harry Scull will spend five years on probation.
Scull was arrested in September after an investigation into an April house fire. His defense attorney told the Olean Times Hearld that even though Scull pleaded guilty he did not admit to causing the fire.

35 year old Kevin Todd Jr., of Buffalo, was sentenced as a repeat felon to three years in state prison for two counts of tyring to sell crack cocaine last July in Olean.

Insurance Fraud Sentence

An Allegany man who was accused of burning down his house to collect the insurance money was caught, convicted and sentenced.
Forty one year old Harry Scull will spend five years on probation for second-degree attempted insurance fraud.
Scull was arrested in September after an investigation into an April house fire concluded that he caused the fire.
Scull’s defense attorney told the Olean Times Hearld that even though Scull pleaded guilty he did not admit to causing the fire or fleeing afterward.

nineteen year old Joshua Baskins of Wellsville pleaded not guilty to seven counts of second-degree rape and one count of second-degree burglary, and a few other charges.
He’s accused of breaking into an Olean building in January and had sex with someone younger than 15.

twenty one year old Amanda Borner, of Perrysburg, pleaded guilty to selling drugs to someone last September in Gowanda.
She’s been sentenced in July.
