Allegany County Going Solar

Allegany County lawmakers say they can save $80,000 a year in electricity costs by installing solar panels at the the county landfill. They’ve approved a 20-year agreement with SolarCity, which is currently involved in the building of Western New York’s largest solar panel manufacturing plant.

FBI Raids Olean Kingsmen Clubhouse

The FBI raided the headquarters of the Olean chapter of the Kingsmen motorcycle club yesterday, breaking down the door and using flashbang stun grenades, while snipers surrounded the building on East Pine Street and a helicopter hovered overhead. Search warrants were executed at seven Kingsmen clubhouses in Cattaraugus, Erie and Niagara counties early Wednesday morning. The FBI isn’t releasing any more information, because they say the warrants are sealed.

First Day of School in Bradford

It’s back to school for Bradford students. Classes begin today at Bradford Area High School, Floyd C. Fretz Middle School, and School Street and George G. Blaisdell elemdentary schools. Bradford Area Christian Academy, St. Bernard Elementary and Middle School and The Learning Center will also be back in session today. Olean City School District students have two more weeks of summer vacation, the first day of class isn’t til September 8th.

Four Arrested in Olean Drug Raid

Four people are facing drug charges after Olean Police served a search warrant on an apartment on West Green Street. 27-year-old Nicholas Cossairt, 23-year-olds Samantha and Stephanie Cossairt — both on parole for prior drug convictions — and a 16-year-old boy were taken into custody Friday morning.
Police say they seized cocaine, Suboxone, marijuana and drug paraphernalia during the search.

Fire Damages Popular Kill Buck Diner

Langworthy’s Diner, off Route 417 in Kill Buck, was damaged in a weekend fire. The fire broke out in the restaurant’s kitchen during the breakfast hour Saturday and spread to the dining room. No one was hurt, but the diner may be a total loss.

Drowning Reported in East Smethport

An apparent drowning was reported last night in East Smethport. The McKean County dive team was dispatched to Pete’s Gravel Pit Pond, behind the old Highlander Inn on Route 6 at about 6:45. Smethport Fire-Rescue and a Port Allegany Ambulance also reponded. At about 10:30 last night, the Wellsboro Fire Department Dive Team was sent to assist in the recovery of a body from the pond.

Arrest in Fatal Hit-and-Run

A suspect has been arrested for the hit-and-run crash that left a motorcyclist dead in McKean County more than two months ago. 39-year-old Paul Morrisroe of Marshburg is charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence. Police say he was driving the pickup truck that struck and killed 20-year-old
Dakota Heinaman June 2nd at the entrance to the Cyclone Trailer Park on Route 646. Morrisoe was arraigned and booked into McKean County Jail yesterday afternoon. He was released last night after posting $250,000 bail.

“Wings Over Bradford” This Weekend

“Wings Over Bradford,” the 2015 Aviation Awareness Day takes place tomorrow at Bradford Regional Airport. Parachutists from Sky Dive PA in Grove City will deliver the American flag during the opening ceremony at 10 a.m. “Wings Over Bradford” a full day of family-friendly activities, presented by McKean Aviation Association, the Bradford Regional Airport Authority and Sun Air Express, the new commuter airline at the airport.

Southern Tier to Get Its First Designated Stroke Center

Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville is set to become the first designated stroke center in the Souther Tier. Final approval from the New York state Department of Health is expected this month.
